Sergeant Maurice McCabe, the garda whistleblower on penalty points, broke down yesterday telling the Disclosures Tribunal that he was told that former garda commissioner Martin Callinan told Fianna Fáil TD John McGuinness that Sergeant Maurice McCabe had abused his own children and his nieces and couldn’t be trusted.
According to RTE, McCabe broke down and needed a 10 minute break to collect himself.
He also said that Superintendent David Taylor who was formerly working in the Garda Press Office, told him that he had to destroy him.
McCabe said Taylor told him there that was a campaign made up of text messages, phone calls and whispers to try and destroy him on the authority of Martin Callinan.
The tribunal continues.
