Simon Coveney expected to face no confidence motion later today

The Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney is set to know his fate later today as Sinn Fein are expected to submit a motion of no confidence.

It is understood that Sinn Fein will submit the motion as the Dail resumes following the summer.

Although a number of opposition parties are expected to back the motion, it is believed that Government ministers will give their backing to the foreign affairs minister.

The motion comes following controversy surrounding the appointment of Katherine Zappone to the position of UN Special Envoy last July.
