Sinn Fein call on Government to put aside €340m to improve water infrastructure nationwide

The Sinn Féin party has called on the Government to heavily invest in the upgrading of water services nationwide.

It is understood the party who are heavily opposed to the current water charges, want to spend an extra €340 million improving water infrastructure and sanitation facilities all across the country.

The party say most of the funding for such an overhaul could come from general taxation whilst the remainder could be taken from funding earmarked for water meters.

Sinn Fein say current services need to be brought up to adequate standards and the country must meet certain committments under EU directives.
