According to union representatives, Dublin City Council has failed to maintain agreed levels of safety in terms of staffing levels.
In a statement, SIPTU said that the firefighting service is currently short by 70 firefighters, and this would pass 100 by 2016.
This has left “no option” but to initiate industrial action on October 5.
Initially, this action will take the form of refusing to work “unsustainable levels of voluntary overtime” on a few chosen dates.
