A French court sentenced six teenagers in the 2020 death of a teacher whose killing shocked the country, reports RTE.

Samuel Patty, 47, showed his students caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad from the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo during a free speech lesson, angering some Muslim parents.

Most Muslims avoid depictions of prophets, considering them blasphemous.

Patty was stabbed and beheaded on October 16, 2020, near his high school in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honarin, reports RTE.

The attacker, 18-year-old Abdullakh Anzorov, a Chechen refugee and radical Islamist, was shot dead at the scene by police.

The trial was held behind closed doors due to the young age of the defendants at the time of the incident – 13 to 15 years old.
