Useless: Garda cars broke down an average of six times every day last year

Garda vehicles had an average of six breakdowns per day in the previous year, which required roadside assistance from a recovery service, reports The Mirror.

An Garda Síochána is currently seeking tenders from vehicle recovery companies for a contract estimated to be worth €1.75 million over the next five years.

According to the tender documents, Garda vehicles needed recovery services 2,330 times in 2022, reports The Mirror.

While some of these were repaired at the roadside, others were towed for approximately 135,000km.

As per the documents, the highest number of vehicle recovery jobs were ordered in the Dublin Metropolitan Region (670), followed by the Eastern Region (450), and Southern Region (420), reports The Mirror.
