Sleet and snow on the horizon as big chill moves towards Ireland, Met Eireann warns

With a cold spell predicted for the end of February and the start of March, Ireland is expected to see a return to the subfreezing temperatures that have already affected the nation on a few occasions this year, reports The Mirror.

The upcoming week is expected to see multiple days below freezing temperatures, with snow, hail, and sleet “likely” later in the week, according to Met Éireann.

A “unsettled” second half of week is predicted overall, with lots of windy and rainy conditions on Wednesday and colder conditions starting on Thursday as “a change of airmass” takes effect, reports The Mirror.

We’re most likely to experience hail, sleet, and snow on Thursday and Friday nights, and the extra “wind-chill” will make it seem much colder outside.

It will be quite cold at night starting on Monday, with lows as low as -1. There may be ground frost, mist, and “coastal fog” at times.

Snow is expected to arrive later this week, according to weather expert Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather, who has also warned of the possibility of dangerous driving conditions due to black ice on untreated roads, reports The Mirror.
