Small children in Gaza are now dying from malnutrition

As the health ministry of the Hamas-ruled region said that over a dozen children had died from starvation, the United States announced that it has started airdropping assistance into Gaza today, reports RTE.

After nearly five months of terrible fighting, President Joe Biden, who has pressed Israel to accept additional help, revealed the US relief effort and mentioned the “need to do more” in the hours that followed.

Additionally, it coincides with ongoing talks between Israel and Hamas for a cease-fire in Gaza, which has been under blockade since Hamas’s assault on Israel on October 7.

“We conducted a combined humanitarian assistance airdrop into Gaza” involving three US Air Force C-130 transport planes to provide “relief to civilians affected by the ongoing conflict,” a US military official told AFP on condition of anonymity, reports RTE.

According to the health ministry in the zone controlled by Hamas, at least thirteen children have died in recent days from “malnutrition and dehydration” as a result of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, reports RTE.

Dozens of Palestinians were murdered on Thursday before dawn in a frantic dash for supplies from a convoy of trucks in Gaza City, an episode that has brought attention to the problem.

The Israeli army said the majority of the deaths occurred in a crush or stampede, however the Gaza Health Ministry claimed Israeli soldiers shot them, reports RTE.
