The low-lying fruit is always the smokers and drinkers when it comes the Irish government and throwing together a budget for the upcoming year.
This year is no different, at least for smokers. Perhaps they decided not to go near alcohol as publicans have been up in arms over being closed for practically the entire year as it is.
Smokers however as seeing a 50c increase on a packet of 20 cigarettes bringing the cost of a pack of 20 to around €14. That’s serious money if you smoke a pack of 20 a day.
