In December last year, 43-year-old Dale Morgan took a hammer to his mother, Judith Rhead (68) and hit her 14 times, bludgeoning her to death. Morgan was Mrs Rheads only child.

After the horrific attack, Morgan left his mothers body at her home in Pembrokeshire for two months.
He lived in his mothers flat during this time and tried to conceal her death by walking her dog and lying to her friends and neighbours that she was either isolating at home due to COVID-19, was ill, or in hospital, a court heard, reports Sky News.

Mrs Rhead’s decomposing body was not discovered until 20 February when police officers went to her home having been contacted by her concerned friends.

She was found “slumped in a kneeling position against the bed” with her right hand and forearm on the bed, Paul Lewis QC, prosecuting, told the court. She was “partially clothed and a plastic bag has been placed over her head”, and she had been “tied in place with an electrical cable”.

During his trial, it was outlined that Morgan was stealing money from his mother. Bank records show, from 3 December to 11 February, Morgan transferred £2,878 in 11 transactions from his mother’s accounts to his own. Shortly after, he withdrew the money in cash.

Morgan was jailed for life and will have to serve a minimum term of 21 years and six months before being eligible to apply for parole.
