Taiwan government warns war with China likely as conflict in region dramatically increases

After almost 60 Chinese warplanes violated Taiwan’s airspace in a single day, the country’s President has warned of ‘catastrophic consequences’ if island falls to Chinese communist party.

President Tsai Ing-wen says Taiwan will “do whatever it takes to defend itself” against an increasingly aggressive Beijing as other senior government officals warn that war is inevitable and have called on allies including the U.S and Australia to step up their support.

In the first four days of October around 140 Chinese war planes violated Taiwan’s airspace which has been independent of mainland China in all but name since 1949 when nationalist forces fled to the island after their defeat at the hands of Mao Tse Tung’s communist forces on the mainland.

This unprecendented act of agression signals a renewed determination by the Chinese Communist Party to reclaim what it sees as a renegade province but any attempt to conquer the island by force will be met with ferocious resistance from the Taiwanese and possible intervention by the U.S and even Japan.
