The actor Peter Mayhew has sadly passed away at the age of 74, it has been revealed.
Mayhew who is best remembered for playing Chewbacca in the original Star Wars trilogy, sadly passed away at his home on Tuesday.
In a statement his family confirmed that the he passed away surrounded by his family.
The British born actor who became an American citizen in 2005, portrayed the wookie character in Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Return Of The Jedi (1983).
He also returned to play the role in the Revenge Of The Sith in 2005 and in The Force Awakens in 2015.
Mayhew is survived by his Angie and three children.
