
Five counties are under a Status Orange thunderstorm alert, while the remainder of the nation—aside from Kerry—is under a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning, reports RTE.
Up to 8 p.m., Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Tipperary, and Waterford are under a Status Orange alert.
Flash floods, very hazardous driving conditions with little visibility, and possible damage to electricity lines are all being warned about by Met Éireann, reports RTE.
Joanna Donnelly, a meteorologist with Met Éireann, told RTÉ’s News at One that drivers’ visibility can be significantly decreased.
“Stopping distance is greatly reduced and you cannot necessarily stop as easily in a hailstorm, either or in a very heavy rainstorm for that matter”, reports RTE.
Until 10 p.m., Leinster, Connacht, counties Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford are also under a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning.
As thunderstorms develop, the forecaster stated there would be significant downpours.
