Storm Ashley: Met Eireann warns of winds up to 120km/h

In anticipation of Storm Ashley’s arrival later this weekend, Met Éireann has revised weather warnings for Ireland, reports Breaking News.

The season’s first named storm is predicted to reach landfall on Sunday, and a status-orange wind warning has been extended to Galway, Mayo, Clare, and Donegal.

Strong, gusty southerly winds are predicted to accompany Storm Ashley, along with high tides and potentially destructive gusts.

The national meteorological service has issued a warning that coastal flooding may occur in areas of the country due to gusts of up to 120 km/h, reports Breaking News.

Large coastal waves, loose debris, fallen trees, hazardous traffic conditions and power line damage have all been cautioned to residents of the counties of Clare, Donegal, Galway and Mayo.

From Sunday noon to nine o’clock at night, the warning is in effect.

For the remainder of the nation, a status-yellow wind warning is in effect from 12 a.m. on Sunday until 3 a.m. on Monday, reports Breaking News.

Liz Walsh, a Met Éireann meteorologist, warned that the storm will cause coastal floods and destructive winds throughout the nation.

“We are currently in a period of exceptionally high spring tides, and this, tied in with the strong winds and high waves, will substantially increase the risk of coastal flooding, especially along Atlantic coasts,” she said, reports Breaking News.
