Strike at Cadbury threatens global supply of Dairy Milk

A dispute over outsourcing has escalated at the Cadbury’s plant in Coolock.

Out of 900 people employed ar the plant, 350 workers represented by SIPTU and UNITE voted in favour of the strike, after the outsourcing of 17 roles was announced. Supporters of the strike said that the company left them “with no option”, and intend to halt work this Thursday at 7:00 am. This would threaten the supply of products such as Dairy Milk, Flake and Twirl, not only in Ireland but also on an international level.

Mondelez Ireland, owner of Cadbury, released and estament in which explains that the restructuring looks to ensure the plant’s sustainability and added that the workers affected will be offered alternative equivalent roles. The company also estated that it’s willing to meet with union representatives before the stikes takes place.

And in case you’re wondering, Creme Eggs will continue to be processed for the Easter season.
