A truck driver took an ill-advised chance earlier today, and got his lorry stuck under a medieval arch in Drogheda.
The incident happened when a heavy goods vehicle attempted to drive through the well known St Laurence’s Gate in Drogheda town, with somewhat predictable results.
Kevin Callan, a local councillor, has raised concerns about this type of thing many times in the past, but according to him, the council did nothing in response.
Mr. Callan said “This is what neglecting our heritage actually looks like.”
“I’ve been trying for four years to stop this and the council have not lifted a finger over the past six months since my last official motion.”
It is understood that the truck driver was unharmed in the incident.
