“Take them in your own house, Varadkar” – calls for referendum on whether Ireland should take in more migrants

There have been multiple calls for a referendum to be held on whether Ireland should take in any more migrants.

Social media users have been reacting to the news that the Leo Varadkar, Simon Harris and Simon Coveney have declared that it will take in some of the 350 undocumented migrants who are currently on a boat in the Mediterranean Sea.

People have been commenting that it’s utterly disgraceful to take migrants in from God knows where while 10,000 of our own lie perishing on streets around the country.

In an announcement made on Friday, Ireland along with six other countries will take in some of the migrants who are currently on the Ocean Viking rescue ship in the Mediterranean Sea.

It’s understood that France will take in 150 migrants but Ireland has yet been appointed a number to take in – possibly 150, maybe more.

The agreement now means that all 350 migrants on-board the ship which is currently in the waters between Malta and Linosa, will allowed to enter Malta.

Meanwhile Germany, Luxembourg, Portugal and Romania have agreed to take in migrants.
