Talks to avert strike action by DART drivers get underway today

The capital’s transport system faces complete meltdown in the coming weeks, unless talks between DART drivers and management yield success.

The row centers around a proposed 10-minute frequency increase in DART journeys, set to be introduced from next month onwards.
According to company sources, the increase in weekday services from every 15 to 10 minutes will mean more trains available for commuters, and additional jobs.

However, drivers have expressed concerns about such increase, saying that it will create a heavier workload. Drivers also say that any such rostering changes must be done with staff approval.

To counter such claims, Irish Rail says that new drivers have been trained to ensure the increased service can be achieved.

Talks around these issues will take place at the Workplace Relations Commission today.
