The controversy, confusion, rumours, threats, misinformation, and ultimatums surrounding water charges continue unabated.
Now, Tanaiste Joan Burton has said that water charges for a standard family of four adults will be ‘less than €200’, despite the fact that final figures have not yet been finalized.
In the meantime, the Taoiseach has admitted that the Government have not handled the issue ‘well’, but that the charges ‘will not be dropped’. Instead, he has committed to clearing up the confusion surrounding the whole issue.
According to the Taoiseach, the Government have ‘listened’ to the people, and will bring in a regime that is ‘clear, fair, and affordable.’
While the Tanaiste confirmed that she was only giving her own view and opinion on the matter, this sort of disjointed flow of contradicting information will certainly make the people’s steely determination against water charges even more resolute.
