The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has warned people that they will lose their PUP entitlements if they refuse to return to work.
Speaking following the Taoiseach Micheal Martin’s speech about the reopening of society, Varadkar said that employers will have the right to report people who refuse to take up employment that has been offered to them.
The Tanaiste told reporters that although there will be a phased approach to ending the subsidy payments, employees are expected to forfeit their payment once they have been given the opportunity to re-enter the workforce.
He went on to say that at the moment around 25,000 people are ending their PUP payment every week and its is expected that this number will grow once businesses begin to open up.
