The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has announced last night that proposed same-sex marriage referendum is set to take place on Friday May 22nd.
The Taoiseach made the widely expected announcement during an interview on RTÉ’s Prime Time programme last night. The announcement was made ahead of Fianna Gael’s attendance at the national party conference which will get underway in Co Mayo later today.
When questioned about the upcoming referendum the Toaiseach said that he hopes the referendum will be passed because he believes the motion will portray “a very tolerant and inclusive image of Ireland.”Mr Kenny also stated that most members of the Oireachtas are in favour of the motion.
