Taoiseach: “It will be difficult to persuade the Web Summit to return to Dublin and its not just a matter of writing a cheque”

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has warned that it will not be easy to persuade the Web Summit to return to Dublin in the future.

Mr Kenny believes that it would be highly difficult to convince organisers of the convention to change their minds and it is not as simple as ‘writing a cheque’. However Mr Kenny says he would support any proposals to bring the event back to Ireland, but claims its departure was entirely for commercial decisions.

The Taoiseach made his comments whilst speaking in Brussels this evening, Mr Kenny also said losing the Web Summit was not the result of a failure to act. The Taoiseach told reporters: “No, I mean from my point of view I spoke to Paddy myself actually when he was in Portugal, saying we would offer any assistance that we can in terms of what government could do here.”
