Taoiseach leaves many scratching their heads as he claims those living on minimum wage are “Middle Class”




The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar may have some explaining to do in the coming days ahead after his latest comments have left many people scratching their heads and in complete dismay.

Mr Varadkar who is set to appear on Tonight’s episode of Tonight With Vincent Browne has left many people angry and upset after he said he considers some people living on the current minimum wage to be “middle class” workers.

The Taoiseach who made his rather bizare comments after the long serving host who is about to his leave his role in the popular political a anyalisis programme, asked him to define what he considered to be an average “middle class” wage in Ireland.

In the in depth interview the Taoiseach replied:”It’s between 35 and 40-something thousand, so I would go much broader than that, I would include people who are on the minimum wage, people who work very hard, but would be earning less than that.”

He then added that: “Over 70% of people describe themselves as middle class and Middle Ireland is even broader again.” after the long serving host questioned his rather vague response.

Mr Varadkar added that these particular people are whom to he refers when says hevsays wants to stand up for the middle class in Ireland.
