Taoiseach says Simon Harris ‘is the man to get things done’ as Health Minister survives motion of no confidence

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that the Health Minister Simon Harris is the man to get things done, despite Mr Harris just managing to survive a motion of no confidence.

Mr Varadkar who was speaking in the Dáil on Wednesday, said that Minister Harris has more than handled his position given the difficult circumstances surrounding a number of key issues.

In a stark response to Sinn Féin, the Taoiseach said the party was trigger happy when it comes to confidence motions as they have submitted six such motions within the last three years.

He also claimed that the Health Minister has handled his job well as he can as he has dealt with sensitive issues such as the Eighth Amendment referendum and the CervicalCheck scandal with the upmost sensitivity.

Before adding that the Health Minister has even handled the hospital trolley crisis well as he has made measurable progress in reducing the crisis with numbers at their lowest in four years.

Mr Varadkar also told the Dáil that it wasn’t right to remove Minister Harris from his position by giving into a baying mob, but instead the correct way to handle the issue is to take responsibility for your actions, which Minister Harris is doing.
