Taoiseach says we could have similar restrictions in the future as he expects Covid-19 to be with us for the entirety of 2021

The Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said that the country could face similar restrictions to those announced last night in 2021.

Speaking following last night’s Level 5 announcement, Martin said that we can’t rule out similar restrictions over the coming months ahead as he expects the virus to be with us for the entirety of 2021.

The Taoiseach said that although there is hope for a vaccine in terms of one being announced at the end of the year. He warned that it will take a long time for it to be manufactured.

Martin said that the aim of the restrictions is to surpress the virus as much as we can and warned that Ireland could be moving up and down in levels over the next 6 months and perhaps even beyond that.

He added that last week’s budget was put to together to support such a scenario over the next year.
