Taxpayer to fund legal team for foreign national on disability Jozef Puska who has been charged with murdering Ashling Murphy

Gardai have arrested a man in connection with the murder of schoolteacher Ashling Murphy.

According to RTE, the 31-year-old man, Jozef Puska is a Slovakian national who receives €200 a week.  He was brought before a special sitting of Tullamore District Court and was remanded in custody for a week.  An application for free legal aid was made in court and it was asked that Puska could be provided with an interpreter for future court dates.

When the man was charged with the murder of Ms. Murphy, Mr. Puska replied “no”.  He will now appear before Clover Hill District Court on January 26th and a file will be prepared for the DPP.

The second man who was arrested in connection with the killing has been released.
