TD Michael Collins says ‘Irish people hungry and begging on the streets’ should be looked after first

Cork South West TD Michael Collins has said that Irish people who are hungry in the streets should be prioritised over immigrants.

The Independent TD who was speaking to C103 Radio, made his comments after being questioned over recent comments made by fellow Independent TD Noel Grealish, who said that some migrants sponge off the state.

Collins who defended Mr Grealish’s recent comments told the station that although Mr Grealish’s comments were a bit strong, he believes that the Galway West TD was trying to highlight how the current system works.

The Cork South West TD said that although he believes that one or two families could be brought into local communities, he argued that rural regions are not equipped to deal with 50 or more families.

He added that the government is on about taking in thousands of people into the country, but yet there are Irish people hungry and begging on the streets and they haven’t been looked after.

We have to look after our own first and once we get those issues sorted we should then focus on helping those from across the world.
