A teacher in the UK has received death threats from Muslim parents who are outraged that he started a programme that teaches about LGBT issues.
Andrew Moffat is the assistant head teacher at Parkfield Community School in Birmingham. He designed a programme called the No Outsiders that teaches LGBT lessons.
There have been immense protests by Muslim parents who completely object to their children learning about same-sex relationships. The protests have now spread from Parkfield to other schools in the Birmingham area and beyond.
Moffat gave an interview to Sky News and said he received the following which are perceived as full-on death threats:
“I had a message saying, ‘You won’t last long’. There’s been some very difficult messages to receive.”
Protesters are saying that the programme is completely intolerant to Islam because it teaches that it’s ok to be gay.
Moffat rejects that claims saying that he is trying to teach about equality but that hasn’t stopped the protests.
A massive debate has now ensued into what actually can and can’t be taught in schools.
