A 17-year-old girl who said she was kidnapped while running in western France, prompting a frantic search by hundreds of police officers, admitted her story was a lie, prosecutors said.
When questioned, the teenager identified in the media as Lisa P said she “lied” about the kidnapping by two men on Monday evening and her escape the next day, Laval city prosecutor Céline Maigne said.
The girl’s parents reported her missing on Monday night after failing to return from jogging in a forest near her home in Saint-Brice, a small town about 70 km from Le Mans.
A massive search was undertaken to try and find the teenager. The girl said she was sorry but will now face charges for false reports of a crime.
