The teenager has been released on bail after appearing at Dublin Children’s Court after being arrested in connection with an assault on an English tourist in Temple Bar on Friday night, reports RTE.

The case is mentioned for re-examine on September 5.

Gardaí David Dolan said the teenager – a 17-year-old from Dublin – was involved in the alleged crimes shortly before midnight on Saturday, which took place in Fownes Street Upper shortly after 10pm.

He said the victim, who was in Dublin to attend a football tournament, was out with two friends and met another man from England that night.

He said there was a fight between a large group.

He said the alleged victim in the case was punched in the head by an unknown man and the defendant punched him in the face with a clenched fist before searching his front pocket and taking a black leather wallet.

He then allegedly walked into a nearby Centra store and attempted to purchase an item.

The staff refused him the contactless payment.

Garda Dolan said the victim had facial and neck injuries and the suspect had a broken nose. He was taken to St James Hospital, reports RTE.

The injured man is due to attend a medical appointment in the UK today.

Brian Keenan, the defendant’s lawyer, said there was nothing to suggest his client was involved in the attack on anyone else and no one could say what injuries the man sustained in the case, reports RTE.

Judge Deirdre Gearty said the alleged crime was a serious crime. The teenager was released on bail on the condition that he stay away from the Dublin 2 area and respect a curfew between 10pm and 6am.

He must report to the local police station three times a week and agree to good behavior and avoid drugs.

The accused teenager appeared in court today with his mother and was visibly nervous during today’s hearing, reports RTE.
