The tennis world is reeling today from the shock news that easily their best female athlete is waving goodbye to the game.
Australia’s Ashleigh Barty is retiring as World Number One female player.
She made the shock announcement on social media, declaring that there are other dreams she wants to pursue outside of tennis, with some speculating that she wants to get married and start a family.
Barty said that her heart simply wasn’t in it anymore for the grueling schedule that the sport demands and that she wants to stay at home and enjoy her life after tennis.
She thanked her fans, family and team and said that she’s excited about the next stage of her life.
