Danny Masterson, star of popular sitcom ‘That 70s Show’, is on trial in Los Angeles accused of three charges of rape against three women in the early 2000s.
According to the BBC, Masterson has been out on a $3.3 million bail following his arrest in June, and appeared in court on Friday for the first time. The actor denies all charges, claiming he is being persecuted due to his membership of the Church of Scientology.
His lawyer said that Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey is pursuing the case to boost her status in order to retain her role after the November election. The case follows a three year investigation by the LA Police Department.
Masterson, who is married, was removed from his star role in Netflix comedy ‘The Ranch’ following his arrest. He is best known for starring in the hit sitcom ‘That 70s Show’ alongside Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, which ran from 1998 to 2006.
