The game is up: Ukrainians will see lower payment and capped accommodation from next month

The changes agreed in government will reduce the number of people coming here from Ukraine, Integration Minister Roderick O’Gorman has predicted, reports RTE.

The government agreed to reduce social welfare rates and limit state residence to 90 days for new arrivals from Ukraine.

The current rate of €220 per week will drop to €38.80 for the time Ukrainians are in state housing.

But after leaving these centers they will return to higher social rates, reports RTE.

Meanwhile, parents of children in state care will continue to receive the full monthly child benefit of €140.

The government will soon launch an information campaign in which it will inform Ukrainians planning to come to the country that they will only receive residency from the state for 90 days.

The minister said that this campaign will also highlight the reality of the apartment rental market here, reports RTE.
