A current junior minister has claimed that the government is greatly undermining its own plan to save Irish post offices.
The Junior Minister in question Joe McHugh claims that the entire government must be on the same page if they are to save the countries rural post offices. The news comes as the Department of Social Protection wrote to some welfare recipients asking them to have their payments made directly to their bank accounts last month.
However Minister McHugh has said that he regrets the move and he says that a working group has been setup in order to think of ways to save Irish post offices.
Mr McHugh said: “Every government department must work with the inter-departmental decision to ensure the long-term sustainability and viability of post offices”.
