The late Ashling Murphy’s partner takes defamation case against the BBC

Ashling Murphy’s spouse, a slain schoolteacher, has filed a High Court lawsuit against the BBC, reports The Irish Examiner.

Ryan Casey, 26, filed papers with the court on Thursday.

After giving a moving victim impact statement during Jozef Puska’s sentence hearing at the Criminal Courts of Justice in November 2023, Mr. Casey gained widespread recognition.

When approached for response, his attorneys, Brian P. Adams, stated that the person handling his case would not be returning from vacation until the following month, reports The Irish Examiner.

A question on the matter was not answered by Mr. Casey.

The public was stunned by Ms. Murphy’s murder on January 12, 2022, when she was attacked by Puska while jogging along the Grand Canal close to her hometown of Tullamore. This atrocity sparked vigils around the country in honour of Ashling, reports The Irish Examiner.

Mr. Casey described his relationship with Ashling as “filled with nothing but so much love, happiness, joy, adventure, trust and most importantly respect” in his victim impact statement.

“I never knew that there was a pain as severe and long-lasting as the physical and emotional pain that comes with losing the most important person in your life. And especially in such a horrific, senseless, and just beyond-evil act by such an insignificant lowest-of-the-low waste of life,” he said, in reference to Puska,” reports The Irish Examiner.
