The President of UCD Student Union, Katie Ascough has been impeached after a mammoth campaign orchestrated to oust her from her democratically elected position.
Ascough came under attack from some students at the University recently after her decision to remove information in the college magazine “Winging It” regarding abortion providers and acquiring abortion pills online.
Ms Ascough made the decision after consultation with UCD lawyers who advised her that providing this information was in breach of the 1995 Abortion Information Act.
This fell on deaf ears as a petition was established by abortion activists in the University to impeach Ascough and indeed late last night, the impeachment happened with a vote of around 2 to 1 in favour.
It’s widely accepted that Ascough was targeted for her valiant pro life stance by vicious pro choice activists whose only gripe with their President was the fact that she held alternative views.
Ascough has been shockingly called a “c*nt” on twitter numerous times over the last day but many of the tweets have since been deleted after uproar from her teammates.
However, Ms Ascough gave a defiant speech praising her team and the students who voted for her. She also graciously wished all the students well in their endeavours and left with her head held high.
It’s clear from the magnanimous behaviour of Ms Ascough that she has a very real future in Irish politics.
