The Taoiseach Micheal Martin announced more draconian lockdown measures that are set to be imposed on the Irish public in an effort to slow down the pandemic.
Martin said that the lockdown is set to be extended until at least March 5th with an increased fine to be imposed on those caught outside 5km.
Martin said that “restrictions on people’s movements and on people’s freedom are exceptionally difficult”.
He said that “the true toll restrictions are taking on people’s mental health are unknown, but that they’re significant”.
“The road we are on is hard, the lengthy of time and proximity for vaccination makes it even harder but it is the road we must take together. We’ve done it before but we must take it again.”
