The world’s most expensive car, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz, sold at auction for more than €135 million earlier this month. It is one of just two such cars in existence.
A 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe from 1955 sold at auction for a record price of €135,000,000 to a private collector, according to RM Sotheby’s.
The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold for over US$48 million in 2018, almost triple the previous record.
The invitation-only auction took place on the 5th of May at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, according to RM Sotheby’s.
The car is one of just two prototypes built by the Mercedes-Benz racing department and is named after its creator, Rudolf Uhlenhaut.
