The body of a woman, believed to be in her 40s or 50s, was recovered from the water at Galway harbour at around 2.30pm this afternoon. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly afterwards, a 19-year-old man sadly lost his life after getting into difficulties while swimming with friends in the River Corrib around Dangan.
Their bodies were taken to University Hospital Galway, where post-mortem examinations will be carried out.
