Over the course of the last three months, gardaĆ have made 63 arrests in response to a joint Interpol-led investigation that targets west African criminal organisations, reports RTE.

Operation JACKAL involves law enforcement agencies from 21 nations on six continents, including the Garda SĆochĆ”na, targeting cybercrime gangs including the Nigerian criminal gang ‘Black Axe’.

As part of the operation, 37 searches have been conducted by gardaĆ since April of this year, leading to 63 arrests, reports RTE.

Six juveniles are among the seventeen individuals who have been charged.

Furthermore, according to gardaĆ, two automobiles valued at around €40,000 apiece and eleven phones have also been confiscated.

GardaĆ believe the cars were bought with money that was either stolen or laundered, reports RTE.

In addition, roughly €81,000 and $260,000 worth of bitcoin were confiscated by GardaĆ, who also banned 17 bank accounts that may have been formed fraudulently.

The searches were conducted by GardaĆ affiliated with the National Economic Crime Bureau and the Criminal Assets Bureau, reports RTE.
