Back in May, here at TheLiberal we warned you, Constant Reader, that a deadly species of hornets was en route to the Emerald Island.
And now, such ominous warning has come to pass.
The species in question is indigenous to Southeast Asia, but some specimens have found their way into Europe, likely transported inside cargo boxes hailing from China and other countries in the area.
The deadly hornets have already been spotted in France, Spain, Portugal, and the UK. They pack a powerful punch in the shape of a stinger that can deliver enough venom to kill a hypersensitive human. Six people were confirmed dead in France alone due to anaphylactic shock after a Velutina sting.
Now, it has been confirmed that specimens belonging to the lethal Vespa Velutina species have been spotted in Bunclody, Co. Wexford.
It is believed that a member of the public had a close encounter with the creature in recent times.
If you happen upon one of these creatures, the advice is to run away. Or stomp it with your foot, whichever is easier.
