“They’re an absolute disgrace to the force” – People aren’t happy that GSOC finds gardai failed the public to investigate sexual abuse allegations

Social media users aren’t happy again with how the gardai appear to be performing to protect and serve the good people of Ireland.

Some are saying that there should be a complete overhaul of the force and that many need to be kicked out full stop.

The Garda Officer accepted a finding by the Garda Síochána Ombudsman that allegations of sexual abuse had not been adequately investigated by the Gardaí.

Allegations of child sexual abuse were first referred to the Gardaí by Greater Manchester Police.

Incidents in Ireland were reported to GMP and a “full report” was sent to Gardaí.

However, GSOC found that little had been done to screen or treat the suspect over an extended period of time, meaning the children remained at risk.

Commissioner Drew Harris today recognized the individual and systemic failures of this case.

He said it was “not good enough” and steps had been taken to ensure it didn’t happen again.

The Garda Member in question was found guilty of violating the Garda Disciplinary Rules by breach of duty on two counts and sanctioned accordingly.
