‘Thousands’ of people may not be registered to vote if election happens before Feb 14th

According to the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Commission, thousands of people may not be on electoral register if the general election takes place before February 14th.

According to RTE, Sean Fleming wants the Dáil to take action this week to ensure that all of these voters are entered on the register in time for an election.

The problem is that a new registration for 2020 will not be valid until February 15th.

However, there are thousands of people whose names have been added to this record and who are currently only in a preliminary status.

Fleming believes that these people are not yet aware that they cannot vote in early elections.

Ask Dáil to clarify the matter before it resolves this week.
