Thousands of people pose naked on Bondi Beach for skin cancer

Thousands of people posed nude on Sydney’s Bondi Beach this morning for an art installation aimed at raising awareness of skin cancer and sun safety.

The popular surf beach was turned into a nude beach for a day when some 2,500 volunteers posed for photographer Spencer Tunick.

The large-scale “Strip Off for Skin Cancer” arts event was created in collaboration with a charity that encourages Australians to get regular skin checks.

The number of volunteers represented the more than 2,000 Australians who die each year from skin cancer.

Mr Tunick is known for his artwork of nude crowds at famous locations around the world, including a similar event at the Sydney Opera House in 2010.

“It is only fitting that I use my platform to urge people to get regular check-ups to prevent skin cancer,” said Mr Tunick, reports RTE.
