The UK is sending laser-guided Brimstone 2 missiles to Ukraine.
Originally conceived and designed for the Royal Air Force, Brimstone 2 yields double the range of the original Brimstone 1 design. These missiles, usually launched from strike jets, were used to great effect against enemy forces in Iraq in Syria.
The weapon scans the battlefield while in flight and automatically selects the most appropriate target, based on a number of parameters. Brimstone 2 is able to discern civilian vehicles and lesser-value targets.
The most likely targets for this highly advanced weapon are Russian landing craft. The very presence of Brimstone 2 on the Ukrainian side is enough of a deterrent to make Russian commanders think twice about planning amphibious operations.
