Three men who became stranded on a tiny Pacific island were rescued when search teams saw their ‘SOS’ message written on the beach in rocks, Sky reports.
The seafarers intended set off on July 30th on the planned 27 mile journey between the Puluwat and Pulap atolls in the multi-island nation of Micronesia.
However, their boat went off course and they ran out of fuel, ending up on the uninhabited Pikelot Island some 118 miles from where they set off.
Aircraft rescue teams from the US and Australia saw their SOS message and managed to secure their rescue, with all three men said to be in good condition
after several days on the island. It is not yet known what survival techniques they employed on the island that boasts a rich ecosystem.
