The three people who died in an accident at St Stephens in Co Tyrone have been named.

Patrick Rogers, 26, and Jennifer Acheson, 80, were the drivers of the two vehicles that collided between Cookstown and Dungannon Road around 3:30pm on St Stephen’s Day.

Mr Rogers’ mother-in-law, Mary Duffy, 52, was also killed in the accident.

Mr. Roger’s wife and four children were passengers in his Nissan X-Trail. They were injured in the collision and are still in the hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

A team of specialised investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash.

Superintendent Stephen Murray District Commander for Mid Ulster, said that “any loss of life is a cause of great sadness and it feels particularly tragic at Christmas”, reports RTE.

Superintendent Murray also commended members of the public who provided assistance at the scene and officers and other emergency services for their “caring and professional approach in these very tragic circumstances”.
