Pope Francis has aid in a wide-ranging conversation with the editors of European Jesuit publications on May 19 that in his opinion “World War Three has been declared”.
“The world is at war,” he said. “For me, today, World War III has been declared. This is something that should give us pause for thought. What is happening to humanity that we have had three world wars in a century?”
The Pontiff had previously been the target of harsh criticism after he suggested that NATO had provoked the war in Ukraine by “barking at the gates of Russia”.
Pope Francis claimed he was simply relating what a head of state had told him and in this interview from May 19 praised the courage of the Ukrainian forces while condemning the “the brutality and ferocity” of Russian troops.
