Stricter drink driving laws will be enforced from today.
The new laws will enable gardai to draw blood samples from injured drivers and also perform roadside drug impairment tests.
This regulation aims to close a loophole that prevented gardai from obtaining samples from drivers who were, or claim to be, injured.
The driver will have to consent to the issuing of a certificate once they regain the ability to do so. Refusal of consent will be punishable by penalty points or outright disqualification.
