Time isn’t on our side: UFC keen on hosting McGregor fight in Dublin – but time difference seems to be the key issue

Conor McGregor may be having a well earned rest after making UFC history just over a week ago, however as McGregor is putting his feet up eagerly awaiting the birth of his first child, many in the UFC world are hoping to see ‘The Notorious’ fight in Dublin.

Now it seems we are a step closer to finding out whether or not such an event on Irish soil, the subject which was a mere rumour last week once again surfaced this past weekend when James Elliott, the UFC’s Vice President and General Manager of Europe, Middle East and Africa, was asked whether the Dubliner would fight in Croke Park.

Speaking after UFC fight night in Belfast, Elliot said: “We’re working through all the different possibilities for Conor. Obviously there are a number of things up in the air at the moment. We’ve made no secret about the fact that we’d love to figure out a way to get it done.”

“He’s gone on to such success that it’s something which I know he’s keen to try and get done as well. It’s very, very complicated to try and bring him back, particularly to Dublin. We’ll always try and figure out the best way of getting it done if we can. We’re working on it.”

It is understood the main hurdle stopping the event is the time difference between Ireland and the US. It is thought that the 11pm curfew for live events to end in Dublin would hamper sales stateside given the 5- 8 hour time difference, meaning events would be wrapped up well before US prime time viewing.
